Nulook Supplies Home of the Year Winner 24th August 2011

A contemporary two-bedroom Auckland west coast bach, won HOME New Zealand magazine's Home of the Year award for 2011.

Owned by former Waitakere mayor Bob Harvey, the 130 square metre home was designed by Michael O'Sullivan of Bull O'Sullivan Architects and built by Bruce Barton of Barton Builders.

The property features open plan living within a contemporary design space. The joinery is designed to reduce heat build up in the main living area by using Nulook’s thermally broken residential suite which incorporated argon gas into the green tint double glazing where much of the roof glazing is located.

The sloped roof lights are structurally glazed to the frames. The home features large sliding windows and doors designed for taking in the breath taking views of the wonderful Karekare surrounds. The home’s joinery was supplied by Nulook Kumeu.

Dean Cade from Nulook Kumeu said “It was not an easy job as we needed to design most areas as we went. The most challenging was the slopped roof lights, we had to support the glass while the structural sealant cured.”
